Walgreens to shutter many stores
#11
Aldi's bought out Winn Dixie and promptly closed all the pharmacies. All scripts were transferred to Walgreens. This will be fun to watch when WG's closes.

on one hand, there are a lot of walgreens stores, on the other it is nice to have a good density of pharmacies.

The busy walgreens stores are annoying. I feel bad for the pharmacists - they don't have a moment to stand still. Consolidation is likely to make this worse.

I try to do mail order as much as possible anyway.

We have no pharmacy but 1 Walgreens for a 25 minute drive. A friend works in the pharmacy there, too. I really hope they don’t close our store. There’s no other between work and home, either.

What's interesting is there has been a massive consolidation. I'm sure you can remember your local Pharmacy chains that seemed huge when you were younger. In Los Angeles, ours was Thrifty and Sav-On drugs stores.

I have 4 Walgreens within a mile of my suburban home. That is excessive.

It's a not-too-long drive but there is a Walgreen's 'near' me.

There was a CVS a little nearer, but it's gone.

If Walgreen's goes, it's a pretty decent drive to a pharmacy.

Walgreens treats their pharmacists poorly, which does nothing to help the situation. The pharmacies are poorly staffed and mine has had hours cut back at times.

I now use a small place near there, where the owner is great and very accommodating. He'll check out a number of warehouses to find the best price and continually comes in lower that any chain.

So many locations have a CVS within a block of a Walgreens.

My (new to us) Walgreens is underused, and there are several others within 10 min drive.

Most of the profits in pharmacy are going to the big PBMs.

The local CVS here shut down a perfectly good location in order to build a brand new one two blocks away, directly across the street from the Walgreens.
