Try a system restore from a date just before you started experiencing the problem. Then assuming that takes care of the problem, you can do updates one at a time, setting a new restore point before each update. This of course assumes you have enuf HDD space to handle the restore point files. Good Luck.

olnacl,
THere is enough HDD space so I will do a system restore. Thanks for the suggestion.

olnacl,
The system restore fixed the problem. The only strange thing is that AVG cannot be open from the All Prorams menu but it is activated in Securiy Control Center. I suppose I should reinstall the app.

That sounds like a good idea - reinstall the AVG app. And, Windows being Windows, it's a good idea to create a Restore Point each time you install anything. Then, should it cause a problem, you can back right out with a minimum of fuss. It's still a goog idea to reinstall the OS every year or so, especially if you have a pristine install with apps saved on an external drive or DVD somewhere. I use an application called Deploy Center, and keep my documents on a separate partition so restoring the OS/Apps doesn't cause me a lot of grief. Windows just isn't an easy OS to live with..

Great suggestion there, olnacl! Since it's been a over year since my last fresh installation, I might as well take advantage of this opportunity to partition my 160 Gig hard drive. What should the size of the OS partition be?
I am wondering if owners of MBP running Parallel have to reinstall Windows OS annually as well.

What I'd do, is backup your documents to an external drive, then see how much space you used for the OS and applications you use regularly. Add enough space for updates and new sottware you're thinking of adding. Then add another 10 - 20GB for grins. The rest can be your data partition. I'm of course assuming an adequate size HDD. If not, buy another one and use one for data and the other for the OS and applications. You can never have "too much" free space on a drive.
