Loving the new Safari, but man the ads...
#11
I installed the Safari 3 beta on my Powerbook. Nice little improvements, noticable improvement in rendering speeds, especially on some sites I frequent that have given Safari trouble in the past.

I've been getting a bit disillusioned with PithHelmet, though. While the content filtering is powerful and I've grown dependent on it, it's also been glitchy for me. Are there any other ad-blocker/content filter plugins for Safari?

Silencio, I've found PithHelmet works fine as long as I don't also install Saft. I really miss its ability to remember tabs (when quitting), but I had to choose between the two.

Tried it briefly. Slow and annoying just like every other version of Safari. When I go to the address area, I have to select the whole address myself to type over it. In Seamonkey, it just selects everything as soon as you click the area. That alone is enough to make Safari too annoying to use. The lack of sidebar is inexcusable after having it since, what, 1997 in IE? Autofill still sucks. I don't think the Windoze release is going to win any converts either.

Command-l

What's a "sidebar" for?

Autofill still sucks.

No, it doesn't.

When are they going to add the option of a new tab button to the toolbar?

Yes, I know I can triple click, but Seamonkey is simply more efficient. A single click and ready to type a url. The sidebar lets me see my history and bookmarks while still letting me see my current page. In Seamonkey, I doubleclick in the field and it autofills. And agreed, there should be a button to add a new tab. Sorry, but Safari is far slower than Seamonkey such that on the rare occasion I go to use it, the first thing I think on the first page I bring up is why is it taking so long to load? Too bad Seamonkey is so ugly and has a lack of replacement themes. Safari wins on that I guess.

Is Seamonkey more efficient than keying command-l then typing the URL? No need to take your hands off the keyboard.

Autofill on Safari is automatic--just start typing and it will do the rest. Alternately, drop into a field and key shift-command-a.

New Tab--command-t

My hand is not usually on the keyboard when I am browsing. I'm using the scroll wheel and clicking links in pages and clicking bookmarks. Safari also does not have a menu of recent sites listed in the URL area by clicking the arrow to the right of it. I realize Safari has autofill, it just doesn't work like I want it to. Again, my hand is on the mouse and if I can just double click to autofill, that's much faster. Anyway, it's all personal preference. I just find Safari annoying, and without the sidebar, just totally inefficient compared to most other browsers.
