IMHO, "watch" is the operative word here. She's got the "sound" but to me she's lacking that "why". Maybe it's a life experience thing?

Same holds true for Mimi Carey (although she's starting to figure out she's got the pipes, we know it and we don't need her Star Search renditions anymore to realize it).

Now if Christina Aguleria and Beyonce can stop yodeling and Melissa Etheridge can stop trying to convince us that she's Janis and the hardest screaming woman in show biz, maybe I can listen to their talent without always gritting my teeth.

Just my 2 cents...

I saw a Shakira concert in Brazill a few years ago, I was totally blown away by her talent, especially her guitar playing.

A very pleasant surprise as I was expecting a Aguilera/Beyonce/Paris type of non-talent.

However, I have yet to own any of her music.

Bonnie Ratt is my all time fav singer/blue guitar player; Gladys Knight is my all time fav singer!

I love early Bonnie - Home Plate / Sweet Forgiveness. Newer stuff is a bit commercial.

I think Lucinda is just as good, but completely different.

Everything Joss sings sounds the same- she is good - maybe some living will give her some depth and soul.

I've been a Bonnie Raitt fan for a good many years, starting around high school.

One year after winning a Grammy, somebody asked her something about how life is, and she said "It's easier to get laid"

Gotta love that!

During one performance, there was a trumpet player in her band, and he did some kind of fluttering sound on the trumpet (think Flight of the Bumble Bee) and she commented on his embrasure with something like "I envy the girl who gets those lips".

Salacious. I like that in a woman.

Next to me, that is.
