I cleaned those folders and couldn't boot except in Safe. Since the developer hasn't gotten back and all the other mess I guess I'll do a clean.
That doesn't change the situ with my mums Intel iMac. She has just 10.5.1 on it and no 3rd party. At 86 I'm glad she gets thru email and Skype ........ most of the time.
On my 3rd responsibility, one of last years MBPs running the latest Pro Tools under 10.5.1. That one is happy as a p.i.s. Same 3rd party apps except TypeIt.
And judging from what I've read elsewhere, there are some valid problems with Leo.
I'll try 10.5.1 with this clean as I feel that was running smoother. And so do the people at Magma that make the ext chassis I use with Pro Tools. They do not suggest 10.5.1 as yet.
Their tiny company depends on the knowledge and beta testing they do for their customers.
A stumble here or there for $18B cash fat Apple isn't gonna hurt them, nor is it likely to send me or any other long term Apple user back to virus town.
I'm just saying, after 20 years of owning Macs, I think Leo may have come out a moment too soon.

Leopard contains considerable 'under-the-hood' changes. It is a forward-looking update that, among other things, makes application programming easier and enhances capabilities.
That's why you'll be seeing an increasing number of Leopard-only applications. It's also why older applications and utilities that were poorly programmed or used old, deprecated APIs may have compatibility problems under Leopard.
Your problems are caused by such software, not by Leopard. Update your software or talk to the developers.

You're doing professional audio and you didn't bother to check that your software and hardware was compatible before upgrading?!!
WTF?!
Sure, blame Apple. It's clearly their fault.

nope I don't bother to check. Because Apple and digidesign (my unfriendly and unsupportive provider of software that has become the industry standard, for better or worse) don't always talk and one must, sometimes, take the chance.
Fortunately, Magma has a much more supportive team then either.
I'm glad that Leo is a "forward looking" change, I'd expect nothing less from Apple.
I planned from past experience. And from Panther to Tiger was effortless, after waiting a few months for burn in. As a matter of fact, so was 9 to X, but for that I waited until Panther.
And since AA mentioned crappy old OS9.
My first live experience with Pro Tools was under 9.
At the same time I was using Live v3. We were live on a very big music award show while PT chased code ( for playback by those kids who can't play live) and had a Tascam DA88 chase it. Live did bumpers and VO's playback while I dl'd updated VOs for the next segment with either IE or Safari and IM'd with producers the changes. From a G4 powerbook loaded with "plug-ins, launchers, input managers, make-my-system-crash-like-Mac-OS-9 utilities and other junk. I ran like that, under 9 until Panther, on many shows configured the same with no problems.
I've actually had more problems with that config under X, such that clients insist now on a Pro Tools system and the rest. So the minor problems that I've experienced with x have made me more $$. Some of that is certainly digi, Some, them stinking half dozen widgets, when I fergit to turn off the Airport.
Again, thanks for sharing you altitudes. I believe a couple of you are nearly ready to be TV producers on the highest levels.

Thanks for relating your experiences, Fritz.
I never doubted your issues--I just have a different take on them.
Once you have things settled down, you may want to take a look at Logic Studio. It's 20 pounds/50 GB of DAW goodness for $499.

I've looked at Logic Pro and I can't sell it too clients. Producers hear a buzz word and that's what they want. It took years to wean them off tape based rec'dg. I'm thrilled.
Now they all want the Tascam x48, that doesn't lock to picture with the ease of PT.
But it's cheaper to rent. I can't wait for that first call from audio post.

Both Digi and Avid are notorious for being months or even years behind on necessary updates. When Avid bought DD, it just compounded the problem.
If you knew anything about the audio product that you claim to be a long-time user of, you'd know that the maker and the entire community built around it DO NOT RECOMMEND UPGRADING YOUR OS until the fixes are out... and professionals know to wait for the fixes for the first fixes.

perhaps, but in my use of PT, I'm often way ahead of their curve. And as I think I indicated, my MBP upgraded to 10.5.1 for the use of HD with a Magma chassis went exactly as Magma said. digi probably won't support for 6 months like you indicated, but Magma was spot on for 10.5.1.
I cleaned installed my office MP and took it to 10.5.1 with all them "plug-ins, launchers, input managers, make-my-system-crash-like-Mac-OS-9 utilities and other junk". Thus far it seems quite fine.
Can't say that a clean install was the ticket as it was all running fine after the 1st attempt with an Archive Install to 10.5.1. The 10.5.2 update is what caused the mess, what Magma recommends avoiding at this point and what many others are reporting problems with on the ADFs.
So we'll call it half right. Leo is ready, but 10.5.2 may not be. As usual with computers and uses, your mileage may differ.
Numerous posters to this thread are a bit over the top with their "suggestions".
Here and at a previous forum that many supported, I always try to help those with Mac questions or problems, not attack.
Perhaps I'm a little too country for all y'all .... or myself.

Pointing out that you did something stupid is not attacking you. Maybe next time you'll think twice before slicing yourself on the bleeding edge.
I work with a lot of audio professionals who have nearly all tried Leopard by now, but none have risked their vital production equipment.
DON'T PUT THE MONEY MACHINE AT RISK.
Got it?
