Fight The Smears against Barack Obama
#21
If the only issue that is important in the upcoming election is Iraq then go on with this discussion but I think there are other issues to consider. If Obama ends the Iraq war we will return over 200,000 people to the USA who will be looking for jobs in an admitted weak market. Obama would put limitations on free trade with other countries at at time when the american dollar is weak, thereby reducing out exports. Obama would increase taxes to 39% on individuals making over $200k, these are the people who runs businesses and employ us.

I'm not saying Iraq isn't an important issue, but there are OTHER issues we could argue about. I'm also not saying Obama (or McCain) is a bad person, but the Iraq war probably does not effect many of us directly while other issues do.

Ok, I've had a little whiskey tonight and I'm going to bed. In the morning I fly out on vacation. Wahoo!

[quote karsen]Yeah and I meant it in every literal sense of the word... It's called sarcasm.
This thread has taken a slightly serious tone so.......

Maybe after this thread we'll have a clearer idea of who the committed political soldiers really are. I, for one, am a bit tired of seeing them parade around dressed as inquiring neutrals.

[quote karsen][quote Black Landlord][quote karsen][quote Black Landlord]That Obama video you linked to uses clips that do not directly relate to eachother, much like they do when they make a funny Star Trek video that's supposed to show a love affair between Kirk and Spock.
I realize those are pieced together clips, it is YouTube after all. That doesn't change the fact that in the clip Obama said 100 years of war. They didn't take each word and piece it together, did they? I mean, he said it right, and you said he would never do such a thing. Either I was right and you won't admit it, or is NBC in on a conspiracy to bring down Obama by utilizing Star Trek technology to dupe the world because of a higher agenda? It's probably that though right? I mean, Obama is perfect.
Karsen-- why did they edit out the sentence in which McCain says "100 years" in each instance of McCain speaking? Clipped right out of the middle of the sentence.
Disgusting.
Who is they? Star Trek again? Everyone's well aware McCain said 100 years. That's not in question. What McCain never said was 100 years of WAR. It's pretty clear to anyone who listened to McCain with even a shred of fairness that he was talking about 50, 100 years or more of presence in Iraq. Just like Germany, Japan, Korea, etc. If Obama wants to discuss the possible negative effects of a 100 year presence in Iraq that's fine, but he chose to lie about what was said.

Why are you talking about what someone edited out of McCain's speech and once again ignoring that Obama libeled McCain? You just can't admit you're wrong can you?

This thread started with a boo hoo, woe is me comment about those mean old right wingers who said Obama won't recite the pledge, and there's even a link where you can watch Obama say the pledge... hallelujah!! Did McCain say that Obama won't say the pledge? I wasn't even aware that the pledge was a major issue in this election year.

Both sides play dirty every election year, it's not just the right wingers. In fact the stuff coming out of the left wing blogs is downright nasty. Some of the nastiest crap I've ever read, I think it'd make Bush/Cheney blush and they did a hell of a smear campaign on McCain in 2000.

Rather than focus on what some self-important third party like move on or the swift boaters says or does how 'bout we focus on the candidates. I pointed out something false Obama himself has been saying about McCain and it also happens to be a MAJOR issue in the election, not a freaking lapel pin.

If someone else would like to add something Obama has falsely said about McCain, or McCain himself has falsely said about Obama I'd love to hear it. Otherwise please stop crying about lapel pins and the Pledge of Allegiance, you sound like a bunch of school yard pansy asses. "Whaaa, he said I don't say the Pledge of Allegiance!"
Karsen,
Obama has impressed me as far less than perfect, don't get me wrong.
But I think, if you're continuing to argue from the clip that you posted that Obama is saying that McCain =said= he wants 100 years of war with Irag, we're going to have to come up with a clip that's not edited to end halfway through his explanation (this is not important enough for me personally to tear the internet apart doing so).

But-- as an aside, admit it- if Obama took the high road every time you and everyone else would be all over him not being tough enough to face all the Iraqs and Irans and North Koreas . . .

That's true. I don't know any of the soldiers in the war zone.

Fuck 'em.

Did the Obama bashers watch the whole clip?
Thanks Black Landlord, I actually thought Obama was exaggerating till watching the whole quote. At the end, McCain goes way beyond the 100 year statement and says in essence he has "an open ended commitment" with causalities or not to a lot of places but is clearly referring to Iraq.

Open ended not 100 years boys and girls. No wonder they hate us more than ever. We sure wouldn't like China treating us this way. Ron Paul should be Obama's VP. That would be way cool!

>Oy veh, Karsen, you've been duped.

The clip of McCan supposedly "not saying" 100 years is the wrong one.
Here it is:

Quite sad that intelligent people like yourself fall for this stuff.

The sad irony here is that some folks think it's OK for McCain to say that we should use Iraq for a base for 100 years.
What is this, the dark ages? Attilah the Hun, Genghis Kahn? Invade a nation and you get the right to treat it as your own until someone else comes along and slaps you back?
