Offering to telecommute and/or freelance seems the best solution. Working out of his home, unless it's an office with the home attached, eff. The risk of him coming down the stairs in a bathrobe to 'check on the employees' .. well, ewww.
Get some freelance costing estimates for the kind of work that you do, and point out that you can work for him at your current pay, which will be LOTS less, out of your place. Then freelance away. Eventually he'll become one of your smaller clients.
