Damn. My 1T Seagate is DOA.

I'm still in the process of doing the zero 7 time feature of disk utility on my new 1tb drive, it's got two more days to go our of 6. Then I'm going to run the Integrity program for a couple of days. I'm hoping that will stress test the drive to a point where I can trust it. Will buy a backup as soon as possible even so. Spendy business.

This is why I am waiting until I can afford to buy two. I figure if I get one now I will load it up with stuff and won't have a good way to back it up, so better to just wait and get two later on. Maybe 750's will drop, but it seems like 1TB is the sweet spot right now.

Care to explain the reasoning behind your process there? I've never heard of doing that to a new drive...

I'm doing the zeroing out thing based on a recommendation from this thread, http://forums.macresource.com/read.php?1,591243,591666 . Basically I'm working the heck out of the drive and I think checking for bad blocks at the same time.

Once that's done I'll do the Integrity check which will write data to the drive and read it back to verify it's the same, over and over.

I replied in that thread, since it's more on-topic...

Not to be offensive, but that has got to be the dumbest idea I have ever heard. Also not to be offensive, but you have far too much time on your hands. Time and the cost of electricity must mean nothing to you...
