Who would replace the VIP?

Gerald Ford was the one selected to be the replacement for Nixon's original VP, Spiro T. Agnew. When Ford took over for Nixon they appointed Nelson Rockefeller to take Ford's place. So, it has already happened at least twice.

About Ford, from the Wiki:

He was the first person appointed to the vice-presidency under the terms of the 25th Amendment, and became President upon Richard Nixon's resignation on August 9, 1974. Ford was the fifth U.S. President never to have been elected to that position, and the only one never to have won any national election. He was also the longest-lived president in U.S. history, dying at the age of 93.

I am old. I remember when all of this happened. IMO, the reason Carter beat Ford was because Ford was never elected to the office of President. Ford was the incumbent and had never run a presidential campaign till he ran against Carter. It was a very interesting campaign.

I'm older.

The Carter election was in reaction to the crimes and outrages stemming from the Nixon administration. Gov. Carter was an moral idealist unsuited to handle the gears of federal government.

Sen. Obama is a reaction to the crimes and outrages stemming from the Bush administration. He appears to be neither a purist or as nieve as was Mr. Carter.

Mr. Obama appears -- at least at this point -- capable.

I hope you are right. I even think, although they wouldn't admit it, we are in so much of a mess that the Republican hope he is capable too.

Mr. Obama appears -- at least at this point in time -- capable of administrating an almost unadministratable country.

I assume that re-post (wouldn't call it a double) is to reinforce the fact that you are aged and losing your mind.

(also, you didn't correct naïve)

The meds wear off. Not to mention that posts on page two no longer exist.
