update on the G4 troubleshooting thread
#21
Try to get around everything just to see if you get an LED to glow on the board.... and check fuse on PS.
Might be internal.

DOES ANYONE HAVE THE REPAIR GUIDE FOR SAWTOOTH??

I can't find mine - I had the set for them through QS - but can't find them.

Maybe the new battery was dead. Leave it plugged in for awhile.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. If it's not too much trouble 'fil, I may take a look at that .pdf of the manual, since I don't know what I'm doing unless it's spelled out.

What's the reason for the two types of plug receptacles on the back?

Also, for the hell of it, I flipped the red voltage switch from 115 to 230 and when I did I heard a little "click" (other than from the actual movement of the switch). Could that be interpreted as a sign of life?

I have changed several Power supplies in these G4's. I still have a classroom with 15 G4's in various flavors. Check this out, makes it easy to install a PC psu in a G4. http://atxg4.com/

The one on the right is a power pass through for a monitor. Many monitors used to come with a cord that would plug into that kind of connection instead of a wall socket and use one less power strip or wall socket. You can still get that kind of cord to use with monitors with changeable power cords. With older PC's. Mac's and workstations the socket might also be switched and turn off power when the PS was shut off. In the case of the G4's it was just passing through whatever the PS was connected to.

Thanks for that link, renderinrocks, but I'm not necessarily looking to extend the life of this thing. I just wanted it to work so I could sell it for a little more than I'd get for a dead machine. I really don't want to put any more $$ into it.

And JoeH, as soon as I started reading your reply, it came back to me. I remember having an older monitor that plugged into the back of one of my older towers. It did make it more convenient rather than taking up another outlet. It's just been so long, I had forgotten about that. Thanks for refreshing my memory.

I am terminally optimistic, but I am betting you didn't get scammed.

There's probably just some weird wonky thing that is wrong with it.

Keep at it as long as you don't mind, and don't spend more than maybe $20 on it, just so you can satisfy your desire to know what the heck is wrong with it (I know I'd want to).
