Another reason to purchase the GoFlex drives. Thunderbolt bases this year

I only buy cases that I can open easily. Are the GoFlex drives glued shut like every Seagate drive I've ever seen?

it would void the 3 year warranty.

If its that big of a deal, then you shouldnt really be buying Seagate or WD or Lacie or anyone else -- you should just buy individially.

The much lamented Iomega tends to supply easy to open cases. Sure, it voids the warranty, but after a year, what do I care? My data is more important than getting back a refurbished replacement drive.

when did they switch to glue? I've only seen snaps (PATA enclosures) and some gnarly double sided tape stuff (SATA enclosures)... haven't hit real glue yet.

2009, maybe 2010 I started noticing the "glue" cases. Could have been earlier. I generally roll my own or choose pre rolled external drives with an easy to open case. Clients brought it to my attention when they started bringing me failed Seagate external drives.
