Would you know what program would the creator of that YouTube video might have used to show his picture in a small frame within the frame showing what was on his Mac's screen?

I didn't watch the video, but you could open iChat and click on the video camera without initiating a chat. You'll have your picture in a small window on the screen when you do a screen capture with whatever software you are using. (I'd include a screen shot but don't want to scare anyone at this early hour on Mother's day).

He is using ScreenFlow (I can tell due to the left-most icon in his menubar - I also have/use ScreenFlow):

What size display will you be using?
Your goal is what- to be able to play all of your movies on the player? Via wireless? USB?
What DVD player did you get?
What settings/preset did you use and what kind of file did you end up with, that gave you bad results?
Short of someone coming to your house and doing it for you
Ok, now that's just BS. If she provided some usable information, it wouldn't take much to write out a step-by-step guide, and what to variables to change.
HB has a lot of settings and can be really confusing. It should have a Basic and Advanced interface so as not to confuse the already confused. But as is the Dive Right In learning model is pretty lousy for a lot of people.
At this point she may only need broad strokes or a precise tweak or two to be satisfied.

My point exactly.

BS right back at ya. If she were willing enough to jump in, she'd have a better basis to ask more informed questions so someone could help further. Since I posted, she posted a few more specifics as to what was going on, and it seems like sekker has already replied with a very helpful post. Hopefully she has PMed him with further questions if necessary.

She dove right in, got unsatisfactory results, ie got nowhere.
She was clearly confused, said so, and remained so up to and including her last post.
The dive right in recommendation was BS, plain and simple.
Now, it may be true that by now she's got more information and doing better. But I'll wager if she got the help she was asking for in the first place, satisfactory results would have been much quicker, and aggravation-free.
The dive-right-in approach is not for the benefit of the confused user, but for the inveterate tinkerer, explorer, power user. And for those who can't or won't, for whatever reasons, offer more structured help.
Not that it's wrong, but it is what it is.

This is a situation where there literally is NO right answer. You can play with Handbrake til the cows come home and still not be satisfied. Excellent quality? Then the file is too big. Small file size? Compromised quality. Not to mention the best formats available. I googled this myself years ago when i started digitizing my DVDs. The only thing i found out is that there was nothing to find out. What worked for one person failed for another. I ended up installing Handbrake and "diving right in". I made several versions of movies saved different ways. Put them on my media server and watched them on my TV in the living room (where I'd be viewing all my movies eventually). And basically settled for what I thought was the best compromise of quality vs. file size. At this point however, with drive prices being what they re, I'm almost thinking of just ripping all my DVDs and leaving them as TS folders.

Kate -
In the last few months I have ripped and processed almost 400 DVDs with RipIt and Handbrake using the Apple TV 2 settings in Handbrake. I show the resulting movies on our 60 inch Sony HDTV via an Apple TV2 and have very good picture quality. Ripit will also convert the ripped Video-TS files to Apple TV 2 or other formats, but I use Handbrake as it provides queuing.
I have written a step by step procedure for doing this with screen dumps. PM me if you would like for me to email you a copy.

Wow, lots of comments. I've contacted several people via PM, so hopefully I wont be clogging up the forum with any more silly questions
In my defense, I have tried Handbrake, Toast, DVDRemaster Pro, Ripit and an assortment of other programs. I've read up on formats, but I'm still confused, having tried several with less than good results, so I thought I'd ask here.
I got the Sony BDP-S580 from Costco, and so far, I'm happy with the quality.

Kate,
your questions aren't silly.
when asking for help, though, it's best to say what you tried already, what didn't work, and what your goal is.
getting & giving information goes far in regard to troubleshooting.
