Sometimes life is so very cruel ...

What a worthless line. There are no answers; the man lost his balance & fell to his death. It was an accident.

Cold, but so true.

"We tell ourselves stories in order to live". -- Susan Sontag
She goes on to say that we "look for the sermon in the suicide".
Well, as a Christian I'm guilty of that all the time, so I'm reminded that here's something that doesn't mean anything, it's just a senseless f*king accident!

I'll pray that those who witnessed it can heal. And double for the kid.

The sick jokes in this thread were far more "cold" than DavidDC's factual observation. Life is full of sorrowful events which are nothing more than accidents. I hope Hamilton can come to realize this was one of them.

Haiku-
Yes, it's sad. What will be sadder will be the lawsuits and new MLB rules that utterly forbid tossing a ball to a fan in the stands. Trust me. It WILL happen. Probably in less than 2 months.

cbelt being cynical is not necessarily a virtue *(:>* mentioned with affection.
I hope what you suggest does not happen. I will even go so far as to bet you $25 that it will not happen in 2 months.

Who ever loses can donate the $25 to a Forum charity. I do not think Nolan Ryan will let what you suggest happen. Insurance companies may try to capitalize on this tragedy. I think The Texas Rangers will do good/honorable things for this family.

The key to the incident is it surely was an accident. Some individuals may try to spin it. That seems to be the nature of Attorneys and the media.

Rudie's nearly nominal opinion *(:>*

I've often wondered watching the games how there wasn't, at this point, high fencing and/or safety netting under those areas of the bleachers. Odds on by next season insurance will force the issue finally.

When I first heard the story, I locked on to what the man's first post fall words were, telling everyone around that his little boy was alone in the bleachers, please go look for him.

And I really feel for Josh Hamilton; he's going to be re-living that moment for the rest of his life.

:agree:

When I saw the story on the news it looked as if there was some kind of secondary facade that he fell between. I don't know what it was, but I immediately wondered why there wasn't something like a net strung between the railing and whatever this other "screen?" was?

The club owner was on expressing that the fan's safety was the most important thing to him. Has this happened before? If so, why wasn't the danger addressed?

I hadn't heard anything about what happened to this man after he fell. Apparently, according to Zoidberg's post, he lived long enough to express concern for his child. How very sad this was… Sad

Surprising it doesn't happen far more often.
