The last time I did that I nearly burned a hole in the back drywall, and that was with some metal protection placed in between. This job today features exposed plywood on one side and wood fiber siding on the other, for the spigot. I'm better off avoiding if I can.
But I may have to replace the valves anyway. Now I'm reading that even if you have a new rubber gasket in the valve, the valve's seat may be worn. I wouldn't have expected that, but it is brass after all.
