Getting Comcast rate down-- any recent success?

So, this thread has me checking Comcast and ATT Uverse again. We are currently ATT w/ UP TO 12mbps and while is it OK for streaming netflix, it can get very, very slow just surfing the web during the daytime hours.

The Comcast pkg I was looking at is Performance Internet and it is also UP TO 12 mbps. So, these two plans are equivalent, right??? What do they really mean by "up to" 12 mbps???

I am getting 23.xx down and 4xx up with Performance; I was very suprised to learn yesterday that it's touted at 12-16 mbps.

I went through the online chat system today and got my bill lowered by about $40/mo via a promotion with no haggling needed... Maybe give that route a try.

Oh and thanks for the reminder that I needed to do this.

For god's sake, can you provide anything at all about how you achieved this? I'm on the phone with them again now and there are ====no=== options.

Last rep swore up and down that there was no "retention department."
Current rep is transferring me to retention department.

Comcast just raised my rate by $20.00 after my 1 year promotion was up. I was able to get that lowered to $3.00 a month by acting like I was going to cancel my service instead of going through customer service. It seems that the customer retention agents have more flexibility to offer you promotions.

I have a package with phone, internet, and a DVR. Although they weren't willing to adjust my monthly rate back to the promotion rate they are giving me the DVR free for a year which almost cancels out the monthly rate increase.

Thank you-- useful to know there is still some flexibility, although I wonder if having a bundle rather than only internet gave them more options. I'd be happy with only a $3 increase. I didn't select the "cancel service" phone option because I thought it might be automated. Will make my way over to the retention department next time I call.
OK, got the $62.95 reduced by $10. I can live with it...

I achieved it by NOT dealing with the idiots on the phone. There is a chat system online, and I have always had better luck on there than through the phones. Nobody to hang up on you or transfer you to the wrong person, etc. and usually NO WAIT TIME.

did they just installed FiOS in your community?

They installed FiOS across the street back in 2007-2008, but then they stopped. They never installed FiOS over here, and it seems like that is never gonna happen now. I read the Verizon stopped FiOS expansion, in particular after Comcast and Time Warner sold them some wireless spectrum.

It was installed in the area probably within the last year. We've been getting the flyers in the mail, newspapers, etc. for almost that long. Frankly, we weren't really unhappy with Comcast (until the bills came), but thought we might as well explore the options.

This works for me

Now, or a year-and-a-half ago when that thread was posted?
It continues to work for me every time I need to get the rate--every 6 or 12 months
