That is the pinnicle of MBP's in my opinion. The last machine that can upgraded, runs fast enough for even the above average user, built solid. The mid-2012 was only discontinued in late 2016, so should be Apple supported until 2021. Drop a SSD drive in, maybe some ram (8gb is plenty with a SSD), and you will have a great machine.

This.

I have a single problem with that machine and it's the low rez screen. No I don't need a Retina display or similar but at least 1440x900 instead of the 1280x800 would be much preferable. I use an older 15" 1440 MBPro and a 11.6" 1366 MBAir, which just scrapes the width necessary for many web pages to render with no side scrolling.

1280 just doesn't cut it anymore and there was no damn excuse at the time as the 2010 13.3" MBAir came with a 1440 screen and the pre-Retina 13.3" MBPro only ever came with a 1280. Laaaaaaaaame.

Totally agree, it is my traveling machine, and an OS testbed for the business, built like a rock. It has been dropped so many times i stopped counting after the first twenty. Two SSDs, 1TB and a 500GB.
Full software suite of everything we run, plus,
Every new version OS gets thrown at it and it so far it handles all well.
Yes, display could be better, but it is 13".
At $500 it is a bargain....

Use the 2011 model all the time.

Be aware I've had the top RAM slot fail on my 2011 models, don't know if it will be the same with my 2012 13" MBPs.
