I got my first taste of Harlan Ellison while reading my older brothers book "Above the Human Landscape: A Social Science Fiction Anthology" which has two short stories written by him.

Table of contents:

The highway / Ray Bradbury
The waveries / Fredric Brown
Mother of necessity / Chad Oliver
Black is beautiful / Robert Silverberg
Golden acres / Kit Reed
Adrift at the policy level / Chandler Davis
"Repent, Harlequin!" said the Ticktockman / Harlan Ellison
Balanced ecology / James H. Schmitz
Positive feedback / Walt and Leigh Richmond
The great radio peril / Eric Frank Russell
Rescue operation / Harry Harrison
Slow Tuesday night / R.A. Lafferty
Light of other days / Bob Shaw
Who can replace a man? / Brian Aldiss
What we have here is too much communication / Leon E. Stover
The handler / Damon Knight
They / Robert Heinlein
Carcinoma angels / Norman Spinrad
Shattered like a glass goblin / Harlan Ellison
The new sound / Charles Beaumont
Rat race / Raymond F. Jones
Coming-of-age day / A.K Jorgensson
Ecce femina! / Bruce McAllister
Seventh victim / Robert Sheckley
Roommates / Harry Harrison
Mr. Costello, hero / Theodore Sturgeon.

"Shattered Like a Glass Goblin" is still one on my favorites.

City on the Edge of Forever is widely considered the Best of Star Trek

A Comic book version came out recently, Truer to his vision.

The world is now dumber, but maybe a little less grumpy!

Hi everyone,

Many fond memories of Harlan Ellison. One of my favorite writers. A particular Harlan Ellison quote stands out to me:

"My work is my work. It is my property... I'm a writer. All I have to support me in my declining old age is the work I have written. It cannot be bandied about and passed around on the Internet just because some pissant thinks he has the right to do it."

I found that in the June 7, 2000 issue of USA Today. It's truth as far as I'm concerned.

Robert

P.S. Links to many other great Harlan Ellison quotes:
