UP YOURS COMCAST!! NO MORE HBO WITHOUT A DIGITAL BOX!
#11
[quote Monster]anyone with FiOS have problems with Tivo, and/or ReplayTV?

this switch with Comcast will make it more difficult to use the above DVRs (at least for a lot of people I imagine), I'm wondering if this is also a partial decision to get customers to use their DVRs, hmmm... think someone will mount a class action lawsuit against them?
How can anyone create a class action?

I didn't say create, I said mount, it has to start somewhere.

A "class action" is a civil suit brought by one or more people on behalf of themselves and others who are similarly situated.

create would be what Comcast has done, mount would be what the person or people may do in response.

Hey, this basic cable customer hasn't used any sort of cable box for eons --- what's a "digital converter"? Is that something different from the regular box they make you get when you sign up for Digital Cable?

Get with the times. The cable companies are dieing to turn off ALL the analog channels.

They will be really geared up when the analog locals are turned off in 2009 and can blame the converted box requirement on that.

You can use a CableCard TV or TiVo.

Sweet! I have 2 years left to go.

After that I may just finally break the piggy bank and buy an HDTV, put an antenna on my roof and tell my home owner's association to go to hell, courtesy of the FCC who says I can.

My comcast internet issues of the past week worsened. Not only could I no longer use port 25, but using 587 I couldn't send email to lots of people. Gmail, for example, had blocked my IP. I was spam filtered out.

I shutoff my modem for an hour, restarted. Still didn't work. I changed the MAC address on my router and instantly got a new IP. I still can't send via port 25, but at least now I'm not being blocked by other mail servers once the message is sent.

As long as they leave port 80 open we should be okay...

Comcast pulled the same crap on me.

No HBO without the 'free' converter box.
Free?
Yes.
Really?
For the first 6 months, then $6
Then, cancel HBO
We could give you a free converter box
Free?
Yes
Really?
For the first 6 months ...
[repeat]

I'm down to all analog signals, and I'll drop them when I switch to HDTV when my 9 year old Toshiba dies.

You still need a digital convertor box to use a TiVo with digital channels.

Almost the same, it translates the digital signals to a frequency your TV can receive, and it descramblers the encrypted pay channels.

Analog Tuner - Channels 2 thru 125,
Digital Tuner - Infinite, essentially. Mine does 1 thru 998.
