Best travel speaker

I got this OontZ Ultra Bluetooth Speaker after having two Anker SoundCore speakers.

This is one of two, this one being a slight upgrade because it pairs with another of this model for 2-channel stereo.

All these speakers are 'stereo' in that they will do 2ch on their own, but when internal speakers are 4" apart...

Impressive specs but the big thing is the superior sound.

The Ankers are muddy and slightly muffled in comparison.

Too much bass too high up in the band, and not much treble.

On it's own, the audio probably get a pass, especially outdoors.

But the OontZ is far better and the Ankers suffer in the briefest of A/B comparisons.

There is a line of the Oontz speakers, the non-stereo pairing being cheaper.

They're small, so they still pack well, though not flat.

A pair of them, with one inverted would pack about the same as that Bose.

I have no idea how this compared to the other suggestions (other than the Anker).

The Marshalls look great and I've always been tempted, just because I've seen so many similar looking Marshall amps at concerts, a couple times seeing huge Marshalls stacked two-high.

But as a travel speaker, I want something compact, and not to pricey should it get... lost.

The Oontz line is from Cambridge Soundworks, who made some very nice sounding speakers at an affordable cost.

I also have those and like them a lot. Possibly like Marshall more, but it is more bulky and not stereo.

it's funny, my friend who worked (past tense) for Bose for many years, ended up with many of their products in his home, of course. one thing was that little cylindrical speaker that I heard the other week at his house. I was surprised at the quality of the sound, as I had a Sonos Play at home and it was not as good. I'm not sure on the model.

The company was sold a couple of times and then could not keep up with the cheap knockoffs, nor the companies that had better technology and operating capital. If you visit the "dollar store" section at Target, there's typically always some sort of cheap bluetooth speaker in a cute form factor for $5.

$149 Holiday special at Costco starting tomorrow.

Or, a la Rammie, you can grab one, or a few Vanzon V40's that are more easily packable in normal sized luggage....

     

as you can see, you can have a choice of many colors (and for some reason, many prices).
I have both Vanzon, and OontZ, and while both are very good, the Vanzon do sound a bit better. I use the OontZ in the bathroom, and at infusions, where admittedly sound quality isn't critical. Since the Vanzon's won the aural battle, they travel. We have the V40 (shown), and a V5 Pro. The V40 disperses sound better, while the more conventionally configured V5 is more directional, but is pretty amazing when you're in its sweet zone. The old Soundcore's, as Rammie noted, don't compare.....though their better models kick their lower end models' butts. IOW, just stay (far) away from the lower end Soundcore's.
