EV four wheel drives have greater off road potential than ICE vehicles and their mechanical 4WD systems. This is because EVs have the potential for better torque control at the individual wheels due to their electric motor and quad drives (contrast this to all the mechanical trickery ICE vehicles must employ in their drive trains).
EVs will be mostly dependent on their software algorithms to control the drive systems. And we're at the pinnacle of ICE prowess, while only at the dawn of EVs. It may take some time before EVs and the software driving them reaches their full potential. But when they do, they will out pace their ICE counterparts. And the nice thing is the 4WD EV you buy today will get upgraded in the future as the software improves (at least in the case of Tesla).
