drilling holes in hard drives

You can always just unscrew them, then play with the shiny platters. I have one sitting on a thumb tack on my desk that I use as a mirror.

Recently we've been taking some old computers for recycling and I've got a stack of hard drives that need to be destroyed. Do you know what size and type of screwdriver is needed for those screws?

Most likely Torx. Depending on whether those are 3.5 or 2.5" drives, you may be looking at T5, T6, T8 if I were to guess. I got a bunch of drives in the basement I could look at but my guess is the actual size depends on the make/model so better to have a kit handy. Also those could be "security" Torx, the one with a pin in the middle.
