Gahhh! Students want me to join Facebook.

[quote enrico7300]Why don't they just try Yahoo Groups. Not as clique-y or cool but it still gets the job done, right? Or do they want to spend seven hours a day adding and managing "friends?"
That's a good question. I'm guessing-- as I said before-- in a way, it's laziness... that they're already all on Facebook, and it's just a matter of joining a pre-existing group? Since I'm obviously not on Facebook, I don't get it either... but I get the impression it's a matter of them doing something they're already comfortable with, rather than doing something new.

[quote comaplate]Depends on how you're going to use it. If you don't plan on having any interaction with any of your friends or anybody from your personal life, then go ahead and set it up -- but I would not recommend mixing the two worlds.

I have a Facebook account I use to keep track of a lot of my college friends, and there's no way on earth I would add any of my students to my Facebook list.
... interesting. Is it possible to have more than one Facebook account? What would be the point, since I'm assuming you want people to find you?

P.S. ... in the time since I posted this, I discovered...

some of my colleagues are ALREADY on Facebook, and DO have students on their friends lists... so much for "keeping the worlds separate" !

Will Facebook get you laid?

If so, I'm joining. (not for any reason connected to YOUR getting laid)
