Found a lampshade iMac - what to do w/ it?
#11
I got a 15" 700MHz model for $50 last spring

It wouldn't boot off the HD or optical but will boot off an external via Firewire so it appears to
have a bad connector on the motherboard (yeah, tried a new cable)

The power cord is available at Radio Shack for about $6 (mine was missing it too)

It's a nice little web surfer and the screen on them is very nice.

The engineering / design is pretty cool too.

PM me if you need a repair manual for it - I have the PDF for it.

This by far my favorite model of iMac. I seriously considered stuffing a mini inside of mine so that I could continue use this format of iMac. The screen is just a dream to use because it is so adjustable. Then someone pointed out to me that I could mount a new iMac on an arm and do more or less the same thing...I'm thinking about it, but I'll need to re-inforce the walls quite a bit.

Yeah, if enough of these pass through your hands, you get a feel for them; after a while you can just tap on the gutted shell and tell if it's good by the sound it makes.

floppies taped to the bottom ?

If you aim for, and hit it, a stud inside the wall will hold it just fine.
