Here's the thing about email subscriptions...

The two sides of the forum do not work the same way. On the Tips & Deals side, you automatically subscribe when you participate in a thread. On the Political side, you don't; you have to click the subscribe link, even if you participate.

Please consider this a bug report.

So, when you post to a thread in the tips and deals forum you automatically start getting notifications?

OK, you need to preface this 'report' with "If one has 'enable email notifications by default' checked in their profile". Apparently that doesn't work for both forums.
