Something is definitely afoot here.
mick e has speculated that this very public offer - (How many protracted "leaks" have you seen thus far from the transition team? Not many.) has been extended to her in an effort to placate her supporters, as well as her ego. It may well be that they offered the post in full knowledge that Slick Willie's business dealings would quash the deal. That way Obama can say he tried to include her, while making Bill look bad. A very smart play.
The flip side is, why wouldn't Obama find a way to get her in the administration - especially since he has so often alluded to Lincoln's example of "keep your friends close - but your enemies closer"?
Her very public actions - and the many Clinton camp leaks involved here could indicate that she is attempting to force the issue through, despite Bill's potential problems. A calling of Obama's bluff, perhaps.
In the end, it may all boil down to Obama offering to retire her campaign debt. Whether the conditions of such a deal would result in her graciously declining the SoS offer or accepting it will be evident in the coming weeks. As this theater unfolds, bear in mind the cardinal rule of every investigation "Follow the money".
