The USB port on the left side of my MBP seems to be dead.
I've tried connecting a couple different USB drives to it and
the power light on the drives comes on but they don't mount.
Both work fine on the other USB port. Is there a hardware test
that I can run to verify that the port isn't working before I have
to take it in to the Apple Store?? Or is there some way to reset
the USB ports??
TIA,
prof

Does the port work for mice or keyboards or other low power usage devices? That would indicate you have a known problem with some models, the port on one side does not get full power and does not power drives.

Good idea, I'll try that.
It's a 2.4 MBP and the problem USB port worked fine for a year.
I wasn't aware of any known issues with USB ports on MBP's.
Thanks,

Try resetting the PMU. Shut it off, remove battery, unplug from wall. Hold down the power button for a few seconds, put battery back in, plug back into wall, turn on.
This may work, it has for me.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot!
