I could EASILY see 2 larger people splitting 3 seats.

Aren't FC seats wider? Seems that would be another option for the airlines rather than selling 2 seats in coach. (Spoken as a person who just recently flew for the first time in 5 years and, yes, I had an obese person in the seat next to me - armrest up and a lot of grunting to get the seat belt fastened. I had to lean to the side for the entire flight) The flight back, with "normal" sized people next to me was a lot more pleasant. I'm big (6' -200 lbs) but I do fit in the seat.

I know people process 100 calories of cane sugar differently than 100 calories of high fructose corn syrup, even vs 100 calories of cod. That's all part of figuring out your personal "equation" different food ratios and combinations yield a different end result.
Once again, my ex lost 1/3 of her weight. been there, watched it, helped make it happen.
with a sample size of 1, i can see how this is easily applicable to every other human being struggling with weight issues

I don't see why airlines just don't charge by a per pound basis. Why should a small petite girl subsidize a 90th percentile man? Take a flight, total the weight of all passengers and baggage, then asses ticket prices on a per pound basis. It's not rocket science, may require a bit to figure out the revenue structure, but it could be done. Of course, most of us wouldn't go for it, in which case it would be bad for the airlines business...but at least we can't say it wouldn't be fair (just like those who complain that passengers taking up more than one seat isn't fair).
