Would you put an SSD in your MBP or it'd be a waste of $$$ ...

There are fast and slow SSD units. SSD read times can be a magnitude faster than a hard drive and can transfer data twice as fast. It depends on the exact modules you compare and the type of drive access.

There are also times when they do not provide much power savings. Doing things like watching a movie that requires continuous data transfer keeps power use higher.

I've got one. Unless you've got the funds to shell out for a big one, or you can get buy with a small drive, it's probably not worth it.

Didn't somebody say there wasn't much speed difference. In fact, SSD could be slower?

Many of the current SSDs are poorly implemented. In addition, current Windows OSs do not properly support SSDs. However, when things are done right, the speed increase is incredible:

How about longevity?

I tried implementing a drive once. It was even harder than formatting and installing.

I thought the read was good for one of the two brands posted here this week, but the write was 10MB/sec vs 57MB on the read.

For purposes of power savings, turn your brightness down on your screen and watch your battery time go up by one or even two hours.
