Cat vs Squirrel - who wins?

Malibu caught one that I know of last summer. I found the half-eaten body at the foot of my deck stairs.

He likes to let me know about his catches.

I've never had a cat that killed squirrels. They caught just about every other small critter though. One cat would just wound them, and bring the prey to her kittens so they could have a go at it.

I had a gigantic cat - he was a stud - always top dog - never had to defend his territory - he was too big...

I once saw him stalking a squirrel... after a moment or two, he pounced. The squirrel started bolting up a tree, but 4 feet up, stopped, turned and hissed in a VERy serious tone.

Stopped my cat in his tracks - he turned around an jumped off the tree without looking back...

I'm sure he could have taken that squirrel, but it's clear that the squirrel was ready to fight to the death - my cat wasn't...
