So now how will you know how many thread views are by Unix fans and how many by pedophiles?
Just for the record I only opened this thread because I've found Greg's words entertaining in the past, should any FBI child-porn investigators be monitoring this forum. Nor do I have any intent of posting nude pics of myself. Please don't kick down my door at three a.m.

Just add /opt/whatever to your path?
I think you would have to recompile something like PHP4 in order to point it to /opt/blah/blah for certain binaries or maybe the Darwinports team has thought of that and created the proper symlinks for itself.
I have never used dp. I did use fink once back on 10.1, but never liked the fact that it created that non-standard path.
Most *nix software I need compiles fine under 10.3, and goes where it's expected to, usually /usr/local.

I'm thinking I really don't want to know about your rear end.
Thank you.

Is that really your rear end or just a generic rear end that you are trying to pass off as your rear end?

Um...where? No, don't answer that. See my next paragraph.

Thus far, I'm a GUI (Excel, Access, FileMaker, etc.) sort of guy. While I have the developer tools installed, and have opened Xcode and thought "Hey, some menus!", that's about as far as I got. So I fully understand the idea of compiling with different different options for different targets, I haven't a clue as how to pull that off.
Not that I'm asking for a walkthrough!
But that is why I'm going to stick with DarwinPorts for now; I need the handholding.
