I don't think getting an itemized bill is the issue. The problem is that you don't know what the treatment is going to cost till AFTER you have had it done. If you take your car in to get it worked on, you get an estimate of the cost before hand so that you can shop around for service. With most of health care today, you don't have that option, unless it might be for some sort of elective surgery. It would be nice if you could get a schedule of services from your doctor or dentist for routine charges. With PPO discounts and such not everyone pays the same and the people without insurance wind up paying the most.
