Anyone here shop at Aldi?
#11
I used to go to Aldi's all the time when I lived on that side of town, prices are good, and the store brands seem to have less additives, sodium, etc.

You can grab an empty box on the way in if you don't want to bother with a cart, but watch out for busy times, you can be standing in line for awhile at the checkout.

I've gotten some electronics there as well--a USB card reader, cheap CD-R's and almost bought the Graphics Tablet, but ended up getting one at the SA.

our Aldi is next door to our supertarget.
and aldi is likely less than 1/2 the size of their supermarket space, too.
I don't shop there much, but I like their niche.

No Aldi near me. Sad No Trader Joe's near me, either. :bomb:

Love' em. I keep a portable cooler and a couple of their canvasy bags in the car. I shop on my way home. Food costs about 1/2 the price of the big name grocery chains. The food is their own brand names, but it's wholesome and decent. Their veggies are usually pretty good. Meat is usually so-so priced, tho. Not everything is a deal.

A few hints-
keep a quarter in your car for the shopping cart.
When you pull into the lot, offer to 'buy' the shopping cart from the little old lady who just finished loading her car. They love that.
I load up the cart, check out, then take the cart to the car where I offload everything into the bags I have in the car. I only use the 'packing bench' in the store when the weather is bad.

funny you should say that; they're actually related companies. google the connection. i go to Aldi's once a week; Trader Joes once a month. there are some TJ products that are repackaged and sold at Aldi for even less. this is particularly true in the breakfast cereal department.

Aldi has the best prices on milk, currently between $1.49 - $1.69 gallon. other items i regularly buy are Fit & Active popcorn, frozen 3 berry mix, turkey meatballs, and ice cream, frozen pineapple chunks, frozen stir fry products, chicken pot pies, yogurt, , butter, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, salsa, some rice mixes, some of their Asia Specialties noodle products, baby carrots, broccoli, baked beans, green peas, and apples.

when my neighborhood Aldi opened last year i scored a George Foreman G5 grill for $49; it sells elsewhere for $99+.

cbelt3 employs the same Aldi survival tricks i use!

if Aldi carries staples that you can use/need shopping there can save you money. the added plus of the shopping cart bounty is that there are no carts in the parking lot just waiting to ding the side of your car.

I have passed an Aldi a few times but never could quite tell what kind of store it was.

btw, radio consumer advocate clark howard says Aldi is so large in Germany, Walmart gave up on trying to establish supermarkets there.

Well, we just got back from the Aldi. It was nice. I bought a few things, rice cakes, dried cherries & apricots, fruit snacks, a thing of instant cappuccino and my husband got a couple of cans of soup. They had milk for 99¢ a gallon. I can barely use up a half gallon in two weeks or I would have bought one.

We didn't really need much as we had gone to the Publix on Monday, but I can see going there for some things. The prices on things like cereal and nuts seemed good. They also had the large cans of Arizona Tea for 79¢ and a few other things that seemed below average. They had this tall storage cabinet that I had gotten at Target a while back and it was about what Target had it on sale for when I bought it. If I decide I need another one, I may go back and get it.

Thanks for all the advice. I may not go there every week, but I am glad it is here.

Isn't there a government milk price floor? Could be a state thing.
