Should the sale of pets be banned?

Our little angel was purchased rather inexpensively as puppies don't sell at those outlets when they get over a certain age.
They are destroyed after so many weeks.
If you're lucky enough to make an offer the day before they are scheduled to be disposed of .......

Pretty sick business model that needs to go.

The ban does not in any way mean a ban on pets, it only means that people will need to choose alternative methods of bringing them home. According to the commission, this can include 1) Pet store adoptions events; 2) Pet store permanent adoption centers/partnerships; 3) Direct sale from small breeders; 4) Adoption from shelters such as Animal Care and Control and the SF/SPCA; 5) Adoption from animal rescue organizations.

Breeders of show dogs do the same thing: "discard" the "imperfect" ones. Breeders of animals for medical testing. Where is the line drawn? cbelt3's idea and public education (bombardment) are the best. However, it will not stop someone who is hell bent on having a purebred.

Oh, yeah, what about those LIVE lobsters, crabs and fish cramped in those giant tanks in the middle of a Chinese restaurants? They are delicious on a plate ... cooked.

There are plenty of pet stores that have dogs and cats available for adoption, which is not the same as selling them. They make plenty of money selling pet supplies. Any pet store where the sale of live animals is an important profit center is partly responsible for the problematic overbreeding and culling. Petsmart, for example, doesn't sell cats or dogs, which is nice. But they sell reptiles, and frankly, shouldn't. The next time you're at Petsmart, look at how they have twenty baby bearded dragons. They don't all live long happy lives.

As for pets vs livestock, find me a city that doesn't already have those defined in their codes. I'm allowed to keep pets, but not allowed to keep livestock. A parrot is a pet, a duck is livestock.

QFE. That extra fee I was charged at a SF restaurant for "universal health care" sure made me happier. I paid more money and didn't get anything for it.

We live in a collective society and collectively, we have not demonstrated a nationwide responsibility regarding the humane management of unwanted and uncared for animals. It's one of the primary concerns that I have and where I choose to expend my personal energy. Rescuing and caring for neglected and unwanted dogs and cats.

At minimum, no one should have the right to "own" an animal. Guardianship with inspection is okay with me. It needs to be easier to remove abused animals from people that are purposefully and/or unwittingly cruel. Every animal should have a loving home.

Breeding cats and dogs? No way. Pounds are full of needy animals, why make more of them?

For humans, the answer is abortion. Maybe we should try that with pets? Not sure how you can abort a goldfish though.
