Good point. I should have added this as another poll option. The address of the other recipient is listed inside on the packing slip. Another option is to just forward it to him.
This is pretty much what I figured on doing, I just don't like fixing Best Buy's mistake for them.

Sounds like a good plan. Imagine if the situation were reversed, you'd be really appreciative if the other person made sure you received your gift card instead of keeping it themselves.

Why I hate best buy? About 8 years ago, I bought a Canon camera. when I got it home, the screen was cracked. When I went pack to exchange it, the pimply faced 19 year old told me he wouldn't exchange it because I "probably dropped it or something".
I ran across the street to Circuit City and bought the same $500 camera (needed it that day for a work project). I then filed a claim with the credit card, got the unit repaired on my own. Didn't need two $500 cameras and have held my grudge since then.
I don't like the idea of hurting an innocent bystander, but I am sure when he/she doesn't get the expected gift card, he/she will call BB customer service and get a replacement.

Either forward it to the right person or donate it to a worthy cause. You can donate the card itself or use it to buy some needed items.
The Ronald McDonald house is building a HUGE new facility here in Chicago and they have an Amazon wishlist posted. I am sure many other worthy organizations have something similar and $100 from Best Buy could go a long way.
BTW- you don't have to buy wishlist items from Amazon. If you buy something, there is an option on the list to mark "bought from other source" (or something like that.)

Why? Who cares if you have to fix their problem for them? People do selfless acts for others all the time. I look at such things as chances to feel smug and to prove that I would do the right thing. If you have the address of the other recipient, send the card. If you don't, keep it.

JPK,
There is no dilemma here. You know exactly what you should do about the situation. Contact Best Buy and allow them to resolve it.
The second envelope may have been addressed to you but it is clear the gift card it contained is intended for someone else. Using that info, Best Buy can correct the mistake. If you keep the card, you are, in essence, stealing it from its intended recipient. That's on top of contributing to the agita the intended recipient is going to have to go through to get the gift card to which he/she is entitled, a gift card you have in your possession. Just my opinion.
Definitely contact Best Buy so its customer service can resolve the situation. Whether Best Buy has done you wrong in the past wouldn't matter. It has nothing at all to do with this situation nor does it entitle you to keep a $100.00 gift card that was clearly intended for someone else.

Well, first of all, it was Pinto who had the angle/devil scene.
But, beyond that, you could return the gift card or toss it. Using it would be theft. So, you have to ask yourself if it's right to steal even from somebody (some thing?) you hate.
That's your call.

contact BB CS rather than forwarding along to the intended recipient. Otherwise, that person will have a similar dilemma when they receive the one from you and the replacement they request from BB!

Something I learned a long time ago is never argue with someone that doesn't have the power to do what I need done. If the cashier or cust rep says they can't do something, bump it up to a supervisor or manager. I've always have great customer service at BB, bu then again, I've never dropped a camera and then lied about breaking it. Kidding.

They person who didn't get the card will probably just complain to BB and get a new one, and the extra card will get voided.
I'd just destroy the card and not worry about it.
THIS is what will happen.
Wouldn't you call and get a replacement? Wouldn't BB void the missing card?

Not necessarily. There is often a long lag in receiving rebates. I've got one coming that I'm watching for, but not sure who I'd contact if it doesn't show up. It's easy to lose track of these things.
Be kind.
