They were out of control with the branding. Because everyone assumed that trying to cure breast cancer was a noble and non-political endeavor which could only garner good will among their customers. Ha.

I think it's a fake. Go to bucketsforacure.com and the domain's for sale. No way KFC would let that happen because of the satirical possibilities.

Unfortunately, it was real. This was an earlier Komen PR fiasco and marketing disaster. They launched the partnership in 2010, both organizations apparently clueless about how it would be perceived. There was a lot of backlash and the partnership is no more.

This controversy flew right past me. I don't even remember the campaign, let alone the outcry. It does confirm how tone-deaf Komen had gotten.
