Guess you don't get that it was not a campaign stump and was a commander-in-chief speech to thank the troops. It was not supposed to be a pep rally. Go look at the ordinary speeches past presidents have given at military installations that were part of the job of the commander-in-chief.

'Yesterday, as delegates gathered in Tampa to nominate Mitt Romney for president in the name of less government, less spending and less interference in state matters, Louisiana’s Republican governor, Bobby Jindal, stepped up to a microphone and, with Hurricane Isaac on the way, not only demanded federal cash and assistance, but he also complained that the cash and assistance already offered by the president — the allegedly socialist wealth-redistributor president — wasn’t enough.
“We appreciate your response to our request and your approval,” Jindal wrote. “However, the state’s original request for federal assistance … included a request for reimbursement for all emergency protective measures. The federal declaration of emergency only provides for direct federal assistance.”
Jindal, like Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan, vocally opposed the stimulus but couldn’t wait to beg for a slice of the money. In Jindal’s case, he even gleefully posed for a photo opportunity with a gigantic sweepstakes-sized stimulus check.
You might recall Jindal’s flop-sweat inducing response to the president’s State of the Union address in which Jindal snarked about government spending on transportation and “volcano monitoring.” It slipped nicely into the on-going attack on the president as a “wealth redistributor” — a communist, a Marxist, a European socialist. But then, when the stimulus was passed, and yesterday when Louisiana faced another natural disaster, and when Jindal faced the obvious reality that states — any state — is incapable of mitigating and responding to natural disasters, he begged for wealth that’s been redistributed from New Yorkers, Californians, Oregonians and Hawaiians with their silly volcano monitoring.

"Under law, the federal government can provide direct assistance at 75 percent of federal funding, with states responsible for 25 percent of costs, though there are exceptions for small, impoverished communities."

The only reporting on this from a source other than a political blog does not contain the quote "go home and call 211."
It quotes the same woman only as saying something positive about Romney.
"Chiarello, 42, who described her home as submerged in floodwaters that rose “over the rooftop,” said she told the Republican presidential nominee that communities like hers in the Mississippi River delta need stronger flood protection.
“We can’t even get down to my house to see what my damage is,” she told reporters after a private conversation that Romney had with her and two other barefoot women wearing T-shirts in a parking lot outside a post office.
“He said that he was going to do the best that he could for us,” she said."

I didn't say it was a campaign stop so quit putting words in my mouth. You missed the story. The troops gave him the cold shoulder. It was very obvious they we ordered to be there, stand respectfully, and listen. They were not disrespectful, but they sure withheld their "love"

How about they both stay away and let the resources needed not be diluted by their presence.
Romney showing up adds nothing and he can do little more than any one else. Essentially he is one step up from a rubbernecking gawker at an accident.
Obama can do more because of his position but does he really need to go in order to know they need assistance where the storm hit? I'd respect him more if he stayed away simply stating that he does not wish to be a distraction or to get in the way of those on the ground doing good.
Obama will be down here on Monday. Romney has already left.
The difference between the two is simple:
One is the sitting President; the other is a Presidential candidate.
The former can come here with the gravitas of his position and TRULY point out to the rest of the nation how important this situation is; the latter was here as a publicity/campaign stunt, specifically attempting to upstage the former.
The former has already been down here a number of times previously; the latter would only visit if it were politically expedient to do so.
The former will come here and truly empathize with the residents and their plight; the latter dismisses them with "call 211". (Whether or not he really said this, it is his attitude that counts-- if he wanted to put his money where his mouth was, and not argue in favor of increased spending on disaster relief, then how about a personal donation, Mitt?)
This about sums it up: "It is the height of hypocrisy for Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to make a pretense of showing sympathy for the victims of Hurricane Isaac when their policies would leave those affected by this disaster stranded and on their own." Bingo! Very well said, Mr. Reid!

No, you are missing my point. You are saying they gave him the cold shoulder. They did not. That was clear from watching his speech. Guess you didn't hear anything or see all of the cell phones taking picts and recording. They responded as any group does when the boss gives a speech. You seem to think this means something. It doesn't. It was not a campaign speech. It was not a pep rally. Again, go look at speeches from previous admins under the same context.

Then who was shouting Hu-ah, Swamp Thing? The kids? Wives? Hired extras? It was pretty noisy at the end of the President's remarks.
You should know this as a former military wife--when your commander is speaking, you stand respectfully, at ease, and listen until dismissed. That also goes for the Commander in Chief.

The original story is by AP writer Kasie Hunt and it can be found on all the AP outlets such as local newspapers and web sites.
I do realize that does not make it gospel truth, of course.

Swampy's still smarting from the revelation that those coal miners were told it was non-paid but mandatory they attend Mitt's speech.

Romney shook hands with National Guardsmen outside the U.S. Post Office and talked with a local resident, Jodie Chiarello, 42, who lost her home in Isaac's flooding.
"He just told me to, um, there's assistance out there," Chiarello said of her conversation with Romney. "He said, go home and call 211." That's a public service number offered in many states.
Chiarello said she will likely seek some other shelter because her home was submerged in the flooding. She expressed frustration about the town's lack of flood protection.
