If you're not in a swing state, then showing support for a third party candidate makes sense. If you are in a swing state, then voting for a third party is the same thing as voting for the repub or dem that you would least like to win (i.e. you would be voting against yourself). Also, keep in mind that in the presidential race, you have vastly more power than those of us in non-swing states. Your single vote is worth 1000s of times more than my vote, but only if you wield it to vote for one of the two candidates that are in the competition.
Unfortunately, until ranked choice voting makes it to the presidential election, it is a two-way competition and third party candidates only serve to result in people voting against their own interests.

How on earth can you cast a vote if you do NOT express an ideological choice? To vote for ANYONE you express a preference. In the best of all possible words that preference is based on something other than a coin flip.

I agree that it's a bit late to not know enough about the candidates. Just take a pass. A bad vote's worse for you and everyone else than a skipped one.

Forget it, I just re-read the OP's question. Go third party ... but realize the consequences of doing so.

Romney wants to try the same supply side economics that didn't produce the promised results when Reagan and Bush I tried it and didn't work again when Bush II tried it. He also wants to try what is essentially growth through austerity. Britain tried that and it failed. Every country that has tried it in this current economic environment has had it fail.
Obama tried demand side economics - a stimulus - which is the same thing every president since WWII has done during recessions. It worked, but it didn't work well enough to really get the economy cooking strongly (hence, the weak recovery). It was a misjudgment, but it was a judgment based on the most common view of economists at the time and probably the political reality that he couldn't get a bigger stimulus package passed.

Don't bother to vote. Then my vote counts for more.

Then, when 10's of thousands of Iranians are liquified when president Romney shocks and awe's 'em, you can say I voted my conscious, so there.

My wife happen to glance at a ladies ballot as they were both coming out of the booths at the same time
and the other lady had voted for the Libertarian party Pres. candidate. For around here I find that unusual.
I suspect Mittens will carry this county by at least a 2/3rds majority. He didn't get any help from the 3 of us.

I'm at the polling place now, about to go in. You've actually been very helpful. I know what I'm going to do.
Thank you.
