Why are fanny packs now deprecated?
#51
I find is kinda sad that the most talked about issue this forum has seen in YEARS is fanny packs. My god... what have we become?

Why not just up the ante and wear one at the same time as a pair of cargo shorts that also have both saddle bags loaded to the brim? I mean, if someone's given up, they may as well give up completely.

you just put words to my thoughts.

On this side, maybe. What you need to do is go to the other side and post about polygamists who wear fanny packs and KABOOM!

I was about to post something along these lines. I can't believe how much discussion this thread has generated.

Let's see if we can extend this thread a bit and start to challenge the polygamist thread post count...

I think I'm starting to understand this fashion objection. Based on a couple of posts it sounds as though there might be some folks out there who wear fanny packs all the time, using as them in lieu of a purse as part of their (unfashionable) urban attire. I don't think I've really seen this, or I just don't notice such things (incidentally, I think the whole messenger bag/man purse thing is going to go this way and get rejected by the fashion police in the near future also).

On the other hand, I've only ever used a fanny pack either for trail hiking/running where I needed to carry a fair amount of equipment, water, etc and didn't want to carry a day pack or wear a heavy jacket, or as a camera case where I needed to carry several lenses, etc and wanted quick access. In this case the fanny pack is a utilitarian tool, not a fashion accessory/purse substitute. Nothing else comes close to substituting for the utility of a fanny pack for these needs.

Yes, those are exactly the people who are to blame for the all the scorn heaped against the fanny pack.
