I think he was my favorite of that genre. Although Andy Williams sang some pretty funky stuff too.

My dad always said Bennett was a far better singer than Sinatra.
As a long time Sinatra fan, I'd have to agree with you dad. Bennett was a much better singer. For my money, Frank was a much better crooner when he was young. As he aged even slightly, his singing morphed into a different style, and he became more of a performer than a good singer. Bennett tho... There seemed a period where I thought he lost his voice to age, and it saddened me. Then out of nowhere it and he were back. He also did great duets with younger singers. I like his time with K.D. Lang, and of course Lady Gaga. Gaga had quite a sweet relationship with Bennett and I think there were times when only she could break through the fog. I will miss Tony Bennett. Seriously.

Tony Bennett, Amy Winehouse - Body and Soul (from Duets II: The Great Performances)
I missed that! I'll check it out. I don't know enough of her work to call myself a fan, but her gig in Dingle was absolutely amazing on several levels.

I didn't meet him that day, but it was a treat just to be in the same room with him.
I respect and admire the restraint of not going up to a celebrity during their repast, particularly in the "oh....... Can I get a selfie with you" and the rancor in social media should said celebrity beg off. That said, I would not have exercised the restraint you did, N-OS. I would have found some way, lame though it would be, to get near him and just give a nod with "Mr. Bennett". Being the class act he is (was) he'd give a quick smile and nod and we'd be back to our own worlds. And I'd forever tell the story of how I met Tony Bennett. No need for embellishment, that would be something of a pure moment for me. Maybe in a few years I'll start telling myself that actually happened. When it's my time, that would be a pleasant last thought. That and thoughts of my girlfriend.

I played on a TV show in Canada called Dini. They said Tony Bennett had been there the night before and he was the nicest guest they had ever had.
