[quote Black Landlord][quote karsen]I'm all for checking candidate's backgrounds for issues relevant to the job they are after. But over the last few days some of the stuff that has been published about Palin and her family have are down right spiteful and nothing to do with her ability to be VP.
I agree. But much of it has also been relevant and necessary.
Like her daughter giving birth to a Downs baby and Palin raising it?
Or her daughter's pregnancy?
Or her husband's DUI?
Or her daughter drinking?
Or that she shouldn't be VP because she has too many kids?
Very little of the Palin "news" has been relevant to her being VP.
The only things I've really heard about her that could be considered relevant is the State Trooper firing incident. She's welcomed an investigation and I'm interested to hear more.
The polar bear lawsuit interests me too. I'd like to hear a reporter question her more on that instead of running around looking for DNA samples.
It's a shame the media is focusing on digging up family dirt instead of looking at some of the things she's done in her career. Good or bad, let's focus on the things she's done in politics and get off this family stuff. It's despicable.

Maybe you are focusing on it. I've read lots of stuff regarding her political career. Maybe if you stop focusing on the sensational crap, you can read it too.
And don't ask me "where?". If this forum is your source of info, then you're in trouble.

republicans mantra:
lies, distort, blame and spin
how did we get into the iraq war?
lies, distort, blame and spin
and the abramoff ethics scandal was the same thing,
lies, distort, blame and spin
and cheney meeting with the energy company heads to undermine environ policy,
lies, distort, blame and spin
and now the palin inquiry whether this pretender has any attributes (other than obvious political right wing religious stains) which would allow her to be a heart-beat from the oval office and what do the republicans do:
you guessed it-lies, distort, blame and spin.
i imagine it won't be long before rove and the other bush/mccain minions start the real name calling: socialist, red, even...commie.
how did the english band the who phrase it, "we won't get fooled again!"
be well

Don't kid yourself. That's no different a game than the Democrats play.

karsen-
with all due respect, i beg to differ.
this bush administration has sunk to a new level of hypocrisy. its mantra is to lie to the press (along w/lying to your own pres secretary, by the way!)
rove and cronies have distorted the truth to the american people on so many issues: my lord, why is iraq-wmd-saddem no longer in anyone's memory?
and no one blames like cheney-the press, the liberals, scooter-everyone else but the obvious failures of the neo-con plan.
then there are the spin folks, who managed to sucker the press and the public to participate in the sham war, ignoring the real security issues facing our natiion while saddling our children with a generation of debt all the while making us less secure thru out the globe.
for me, this election is different. i refuse to bring a cynical approach to november 4th. i want a change from the failed policies of the past 8 years. i want to move away from the politics of blame and start to re-ignite the spirit of possibility. for me, obama represents that spirit of the possible while mccain is nothing but another white guy who has traded on his family's access, his wife's money and his pow days from 40 yrs ago.
we, as a nation, are at a pivotal moment in our history. same was true at the time of lincoln, roosevelt and kennedy. it is time to embrace real change. the repubs had their chance. now it is the dems turn to handle the responsibility.

I don't disagree with you. But the spin, lies and dirty tactics are very much a part of both parties. It's not a coincidence that most politicians are also lawyers.

I agree both parties spin and lie their way through the election cycle. The really big difference is before this current administration they left most of that baggage outside the door of the White House.
This administration took it in with them and (mis)governed from that win-the-election at-all-costs perspective. They never looked at what may have been good for the country as a whole if it wasn't first good for them and their party, the most partisan bunch since Andrew Jackson and inept as well.
When you base your appointments on loyalty and not competence, what you get is what we currently have.
