There is a preference in iTunes called "Parental", but it only blocks when sharing your library and content from the Store. So, doesn't look like there's a good way to do it.
Having said that, there is a really cool app called AirVideo that might work on the iPad. This lets you serve movies from any computer, and "tune in" on the iPod, iPhone, and maybe the new iPad. This program does support a password, on the server portion.
Doing it this way, you could put the kid movies on the iPad directly, and stream your movies from any computer on your LAN. Think that would work?
