I think one of the greatest things about this story is Jack isn't a wild eyed psycho.
He's finally had more than he can take. He's (probably) making decisions he wouldn't under other circumstances. But he's no psycho. He's bringing all of his very deadly talents to bear on fighting his fight this time, even if there is a larger issue of justice and right that happens to be riding on his coattails.
Don't think Jack wouldn't be in this no matter what. Jack would be working to expose the nuke plot regardless. President Taylor has gone off the reservation herself and likely for just as personal reasons, as Kanin pointed out before he resigned. She has even more blood on her hands than Jack at this point. None of those 'private contractors' would be dead if she hadn't gone along with Logan's schemes.
I don't think Jack is planning on walking away from what he's done. I think we may see the series end with him headed for prison. Or, and this might make for a fascnitating ending for those that don't plan on following along to the movies, it could end with Jack alone somewhere just about to eat his gun, fade to black, silent clock, but no gunshot heard.
What about the movies? They could always be prequels, you know.
Damn I'm gonna miss this series.
