If you're going to post online, it is generally considered appropriate to remove birthdates and any other important info from the records of those who are living. Some people even say to remove first names, though that makes quite a mess of the tree. A number of genealogical programs have options for removing this type of info automatically before generating a gedcom for sharing if you specify it.
