Erm, well since it's a 2007 iMac i guess i assumed it's not covered under AppleCare, and you're getting it repaired under Apple's flat fee service. After a little research, it appears that the $300 flat fee figure is for laptops, and i'm not sure what it might be for the iMac. Sorry for any confusion! Regarding AC, i meant that sometimes folks get new machines under warranty because Apple will ultimately be able to part out your machine for resale in refurbs (so it's not a total loss).
