so I need a *compact* middle-range P/S camera to capture my kids

The only P/S cameras I have been happy with have been Canons. I've tried in the past 3 years Nikon, Panasonic / Lumix and an Olympus. None take as good a picture as any of my canons - even those getting on in years.
