Proposed Florida bill bans use of food stamps for sweets/snack foods
#5
Great points davester.

Always fun to see what America's least popular governor is up to.
That mythical welfare queen has made quite the comeback, hasn't she? (I guess he's the welfare king now, hanging out at strip clubs.)

This is not only a very ineffective way to address the obesity epidemic, which is a problem at all levels of society, it is also ridiculously controlling and bureaucratic and would undoubtedly create new problems. Blocking bakery cakes and candy but allowing Kraft Mac n cheese and most breakfast cereals isn't going to change much.

It's also incredibly insulting to tell families who are geniuses at stretching family food dollars in ways most of us couldn't pull off, including the governor and legislators of Florida, that you are going to make strict shopping lists for them all because a few people have made some poor choices. Absurd.

As for the debit card at casinos thing, is the state of Florida going to pay the banks to make the changes necessary to cause ATM's only at certain locations to reject only certain cards? I'm guessing that will cost the state a lot more than accepting that a very small percent of public assistance dollars will be misspent.
