Applecare for iPad change

have you tried to go into a store and talk to the manager? maybe they can still activate the "old" Applecare for your iPad. Or did Apple ever sell the Applecare for iPad as a physical box (like they do for MacBooks for example). I am not sure, but if they did, you should be able to find one on eBay or LA Computer company, B&H, Small Dog Electronics, etc.
