While I love my new iPhone 4, the 4s is definitely a step up, though "old and dying" is and overstatement. If I were spending my own money, I'd have waited for the 5 or gotten the 4s. But, truth be told, whenever you jump in, you'll be behind the curve in a matter of months. Even though the iPhone offers pretty neat hardware, its strength is in the software.
