If you have another mac that can connect to the imac in Firewire target mode, that'd be the method I'd recommend to scan the disk with something like Data Rescue. Good advice! Machine has been off since this happened and she does have another iMac on her desk. Will Data Rescue read an external drive in target mode? Presumably she'd run DR3 from the good iMac (rather than a bootable DVD) and set it to scan the target drive...correct?
