People of any ethnicity are going to be diverse and disparate, doesn't mean they're not of that ethnicity. Look at black people. Just the other day, people were cringing about Justice Thomas because he's so conservative - as though blacks are "supposed to be" liberal (or they're not really black).
Certainly white democrats don't look at white republicans and think "he shouldn't be considered white."
